One of The largest pools of different ancient Beliefs can be found at the Danube River.
Danu is an ancient Indian word meaning River that Scynthians also worshipped which is very interesting Considering The Scynthians Adopted many different beliefs over their journeys
From Iran India to Sibera Turkey & according to Scottish Historians Scotland they traveled through Celtic lands, Roman Lands Asian Lands, The Kuban Steppe which is Modern Day Russia & Ukraine.
Carvings found in Ireland of what appears to be Sun wheels have been found on Pictish Stones in Scotland and those very sunwheels can be found in-between
France & Spain Euskal Herria near the Pyrenees Mountains.
& India
Basque They are believed to have Decented from the Aquitani which are believed to have been A Celtic people apart of Ancient Gaul & Hispania.
The Basque language is of unkown orgin though their ancestors according to The Romans and linguistics Celts from Spain very little Latin language is found in Euskara.
Some sounds may sound like other celtic languages as well as unkown languages
There for it is it's own languages not branching off of any other languages as far as we know. & They don't classify themselves as Spanish, French, or anything but euskaldunak the word
Basque pronounced bas derives from Baskos possibly a Celtic language version of the French word Bask.
The Basque are also ancestors of the
Vascones a Tribel people of Northern Spain in the Iberian Peninsula The Vascones are believed to have been once called Barscunes apart of Iberia
Having ties with Cantabrians however the Basque language does have forms of Latinized language in it in modern Basque.
So the language spoken is not the same as Proto Basque. Few scripts of Proto Basque have been found.
Proto Basque most likely a ancient celtic language lost like Noric, or Lepontic Cisalpine which are Hispanio Celto languages
Spoken before & during The Roman Period. & more
So Danu in Irish Gaelic being flowing & Danu in the Scythian language & indian being River indicates Flowing River or water
Very little is wrote about Danu as a goddess in Irish mythology & or beliefs
Not going to say Irish Goddess because she was more wide spread many people who look into celtic mythology/ Paganism using paganism as a term people can understand though Indigenous is better .
Mainly look at Irish mythology
Irish though Celtic isn't Irish alone And Irish isn't The only Celtic peoples to have
Been around so in this Blog we are looking more Indepth into Danu and what her orgins is.
Well to do so we have to look at where the Gaels Originated before what we know today as Ireland.
The Gaels lived in Spain & Hallstatt austria & Share genetics with The Basque people of Euskal Herria as well as Portugal who also share genetics with Indians from India do to being Indo European. Traces from east to western Europe with many different genetics.
With That Said not only am I covering The Irish information but Worldly Celtic information.
Danu in Ireland is Believed to be associated with Water or A River as well as The Scythians mythology as well as Hinduism from India & Indonesia
There was Speculation that Danu is The Creator of all things Essentially for along long time It has been just that to many people Speculation other's speculated she is the Daughter of Dagda in Irish mythology
In Hinduism Danu is The Daughter of Kashyapa.
But what if she is this is where the Basque Beliefs come in I feel like her alone creating the world is mainly from the Basque Mythology Early Irish kept in their mythology which may have caused the debate.
Plus Iberian mythology Revo & Nabia.
The Basque are one of the last groups of people to end up taken part in Modern religion. Catholicism in the 10th century.
Which brings me to The Goddess Amalur she is the Goddess of the sun & the moon.
A cultural belief among the Basque & other Celts are fires, for ceremonies on Solstices Equinoxes & holidays. As well as Celtic art work & Some
Ancient stories passed down Orally.
I always assumed Danu being associated with The Moon was a Wiccan practice and or belief with the one big moon the face moon. & 2 Crescent moons but This Goddess Amalur is associated with the Moon Sun, & Water & Rivers.
Not only in Basque Beliefs she's those things but believed to have been Mother earth herself. & that is where the term Mother Goddess most likely came about when it comes to Danu.
She holds the power of the earth & all life with her , she is one of the main Basque deities that Takes you into what is known as The Otherworld.
And The Otherworld In other Celtic stories is The Afterlife.
She also created the Carlina Thistle could that also mean she's responsible for thistles originally before the Sidh or Sith talked about in the Celtic Ises though the thistles that grow there are different
Type of thistles like the Spear thistles/ Bull thistles of Scotland across Europe & Asia.
Thistles in Scotland are said to have help be - rid of Viking Invaders either way Thistles seem to play a big role in Celtic
Society.
Now I'm a look into Hinduism for more information to add to Danu.
Danu in India is Described to mean Water that's embodied
Danava very similar to Danann tells us a story about beings children of Danava which indicates a Pantheon of Deities
It is Believed that, That may or may not be the orgin as well behind the name Danu. & The Tuatha de danann. & Or Tribe of Donn Irish speaking considering Dagda is tyed to Sugaar a Basque Deity who slayed a monster re-creating life for all to inhabit
To me that is the exact same story that part
The La Téne Depictions of Danu
Danu of India & Indonesia
Amalur of Basque Beliefs
The Scythian Verdic culture Indo Aryan tribes Depictions match the La Tène culture Depictions almost the same.
Do to Basque Mythology being over taken by Catholicism digging deeper would say rather or not Amalur has parents but till this day in Basque Mythology wise it starts with her Irish mythology & Hinduism provides a aspect that Amalur had parents but history behind her orgins may be lost.
Nabia of Iberian Mythology is also Parallel to Danu
